Mr Mackey, I have some suggestions for you regarding seafood. Work with Ocean Conservancy (my organization) on policy reform, to convert more US fisheries to sustainability. Email me at mpowell (at) oceanconservancy (dot) org. When we succeed in making more US fisheries sustainable, then you you will find a more appealing marketplace for sustainable products--because every US seafood product will be sustainable!

Not exactly true. Whole Foods bought the Wild Oats store in my town, Melbourne, FL and closed it on the 1st of June. Now I would have to drive to Orlando, 50 miles one way, to shop. Whole Foods is opening stores in Florida, but only in the areas that are considered wealthy, like West Palm.

Thanks for the interview. I'm very much looking forward to the launch of your humane meat program.

Yesterday I called one of your stores (SoMa in San Francisco) and asked your butcher where he sourced the meat from, which ranches were included in which batches of sausage, and what criteria he used in choosing which ranches to buy from. He was exceptionally knowledgeable and forthright, and took the time to explain it all to me. I was very impressed and thankful, but it will be better yet when this is all included on labeling, signage, and via the rating system.

I'm skeptical about rating / certification systems in general, but having spent a fair amount of time reading into the specifics and background of your system I'm optimistic.

Good luck, and thank you.

Thanks,
Nate
