Wow. I don't really follow the industry, but I didn't see that one coming. Well put.

Well folks,
There goes another one of my favorite small organic companes . . . being sold off like it was a commodity . . . THE ANSWER IS MONEY, Mr. Fromartz, that's why Seth sold Honest Tea to Coke . . . it's all about the money. Yeah . . . good luck Seth, I hope coke doesn't turn it into "Dis-Honest Tea."

Sigh . . . :-(

P.S. Redeem yourself after you get your distributuion set up by divesting coke, and prove me wrong . . . PLEASE

I actually think it is about survival, not money. You can't make it as a small independent in the drink business. Someone had to fund his losses over the years, and then they need to be repaid through growth...

Haha go figure corporate America!

I liked that stuff.

This trend is starting to sicken me. Tom's of Maine sells out to Colgate, Burt's Bees to Clorox, and now Honest Tea. I'm sure it was a difficult decision for Seth and I understand how hard it is to meet the bottom-line, but it seems like there must be another way. Ultimately, I think consumers would have to be a huge part of a different financial solution, being more proactive about getting our local stores to stock our favorite independently owned products.

I once saw Honest Tea for sale at my local grocery store some years back. But just a few months later, it was pulled. (Ahead of its time I suppose.) It's a major grocery chain in this region, so it would behoove Seth to get Coke to back the product and have another go.

Don't know many other companies where you can get them to invest $40m-$50m and NOT be considered a sellout.
