Absolutely. I agree. I live in the mountains just above the San Joaquin Valley in California. One Kraft facility processes milk from the many dairies in the area. I can buy beef from one of the biggest feedlots I've ever seen (though I don't know if their feed is sourced locally). There is an abundance of local produce, though a local story about pesticide drift from orange groves reminded me that I need to hook up with more backyard gardeners for the produce I can't grow here at my elevation.
